alimatha dekunu kandu

overview, location

Depth:  3 -35 m

Fish Live: whitetip, grey reef sharks, eagle rays, napoleons, stingrays, school of humpback and dark snappers, moray eels along the outer reef

Coral Growth: beautiful softcoralsin the channel, outer reef with nice stone corals

North-east monsoon season with incoming current, start round the corner, but not to far off, because counter-current is possible; first stay shallow, go deeper as you see large school of black snappers, which indicates the entrance of channel; with experienced divers have a look at the ribbon eels; than follow the reef on your right, after the “nose” counter-current is again possible up to the big potato coral

Safety: don’t follow the channel edge to far south from the corner, as sometimes it’s not easy to swim back to the mainreef

Experience Level: not very difficult, if current is not too strong; also nice making a dive in the upper part

Features: grey reef sharks only found with ingoing current

Specialty: black and blue ribbon eels which you’ll find on a little terrace below the channel edge the corner, at a depth of 34 m

South-west monsoon season: with outgoing current, try not to jump to far in the channel, as in front on the “nose” you’ll have a current against you; take reef to the left; whitetip reef sharks often are sleeping on the sandy slope; if visiting the ribbon eels, it is best to go afterwords straight up on the corner, where you’ll find a nice big coral block (6-8 m) with small lobsters and soldierfish; finish your dive on the outer reef

Photography: macro lenses for the ribbon eels recommended; be careful, they are very shy
